There will be changes made to Jidou Teate (child allowance) eligibility from October 2024.
Information about revisions to the child allowance system will be mailed to eligible individuals in late August 2024. We will begin accepting applications in September.
Please note that the child allowance paid out on October 10, 2024 (June-September payments for 2024) will be paid in accordance with the child allowance system before the October changes.

Counting the 1st and 2nd child
Count eligible children beginning with the oldest first (1st is the oldest, then the next oldest is the 2nd, etc.)
・Children the applicant (payment recipient) is raising* who are between 0 and 18 years of age on March 31, 2025
・Children the applicant (payment recipient) has custody of or is financially responsible for who are between 19 and 22 years of age on March 31, 2025
Children you are “raising” are defined as children who live in the same household as you, whose daily needs you are responsible for as a guardian. Children you don’t live with but you send money to, contact, and visit on a regular basis can also count as children you are raising.
Those for whom the following applies must submit certain documents by September 30, 2024 (Mon).

A You are raising a child/children who have not yet entered high school who have not been
receiving child allowance due to exceeding the current income limit
B You are raising a child/children in high school (whether or not you have young children)

※When you fill in documents for your application, write about the situation you expect to be true as of October 1 ,2024
（Example）If you (the applicant) have plans to move to a different city on September 10, you will need to apply in your new city after you have moved
●Important●
The following individuals cannot complete procedures for child allowance
・If the guardian with the higher salary is a public servant (government employee, etc.), they should apply through their employer. Application methods and deadlines vary, so please contact your employer for more information.
・If a child is a registered resident of Toyohashi (according to their Certificate of Residence/Juuminhyou) but their highest-income guardian is registered in a different town/city/municipality, that guardian should apply through the city they live in. Application methods and deadlines vary, so please contact that city for more information.
Those for whom one of the following (A-D) applies do not have to do anything. Those for whom B – D are applicable will also see an increase in their child allowance payment automatically.
A Those who already receive child allowance whose payments will not change due to new revisions
B Those who are only receiving \5000 per child due to salary above the soft limit
C Those who already receive child allowance and are also raising a high school-aged child
D Those who already receive child allowance and are raising a high school-aged child who, if the high school child were included in their child count for child allowance, would be viewed as raising 3 or more children
However, please note that you will need to submit certain documents if one of the following applies:
・You are raising a college-aged child and, if you include your children not yet in high school or college, have 3 or more children

Notice regarding changes to child allowance（制度改正後の通知について）
Regardless of whether or not you had to complete an application, submit documents, etc., if the amount of child allowance money you receive will change, you will receive a notice sometime in December of this year. You will not receive a notice if the amount of child allowance you receive will not change.
